This was absolutely delightful! !We ate the whole stew in just one day. Yes.. it was THAT good! This cabbage stew is a very simple recipe. No complicated techniques or expensive ingredients are needed, and the result will be beyond your expectations! I think its simplicity adds even more value to it. The textures, flavors, everything blends perfectly together. You’ll love it too, I’m sure!

Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound lean ground turkey or beef
  • 1 large green bell pepper
  • 4 garlic cloves diced
  • 1 medium red onion
  • 1 28 oz can of stewed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon oregano
  • 1 cup of beef broth
  • 3 cups of water
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1 tablespoon granulated garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 packet sazon
  • 3 cups petite carrots
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil

Instructions

  1. Roughly chop and rinse cabbage, bell pepper and onion, set aside.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of canola oil on med-high heat in a large pot or dutch oven.
  3. Brown ground turkey, stirring frequently, approximately 15 minutes
  4. Add garlic powder, salt, oregano, diced garlic cloves, onion powder, sazon, pepper and seasoned salt; stir and set aside
  5. In a large pot, add 3 cups of water, cabbage and onion and cook over medium-high temperature or until cabbage is tender, approximately 10 minutes, stirring frequently
  6. Combine cabbage, beef broth, tomato paste, ground turkey(or beef) green bell pepper, carrots, oregano and stewed tomatoes; mix all ingredients well
  7. Simmer for 20 minutes and serve with cornbread if desired
